Flipping your Class with Nearpod

This article explains how you can change an in-person lecture to a self-paced online interactive lecture using Nearpod. This will allow you to record narration for your slides, insert quiz questions, polls, and other interactive elements into your slides, and access detailed reports after students have viewed the slides. Nearpod also allows students to save a copy of the slides with their notes.

Instructions

  1. Access Nearpod at www.nearpod.com and choose the teachers login. Be sure to use the Google SSO login option.

     

  2. Choose to create a new lesson.

     

  3. Upload slides from Google Slides or PowerPoint.

     

  4. Double click on a slide to edit it.

     

Adding Audio Narration to Slides

  1. When editing a slide, choose the audio icon and then choose Record Audio.

     

  2. To record your voice;
    A: Click the microphone icon. (You may be asked to give Nearpod access to your computer’s microphone)
    B. After recording, click the right-facing arrow to collapse the slide editing controls. (The controls often cover the save button).

     

  3. Click the Save button to save your recording.

     

  4. Once you save your audio recording and have edited your slide, choose to save the slide.

     

Making Slides Interactive

  1. Double click on the slide you wish to edit.

     

  2. Choose to insert an activity, such as a quiz, open-ended question. poll, etc.

     

  3. Keep adding activities and content to your presentation. When finished, Save and Exit.

     

Sharing the Lesson with Students

  1. Hover over the lesson you have created and choose Student-Paced. This will allow students to proceed through the slides and activities at their own pace online.

     

  2. Copy the lesson link and share with your students. You can also choose to create a Nearpod Assignment in Canvas.

     

Viewing Reports

You can view student reports to see how each student answered open-ended questions, multiple-choice quizzes, or polls. Reports allows you to drill-down to a detailed view of each student’s learning so you can tailor in-person class time to mentoring those who need additional help.

  1. To view reports, choose the reports link. Then select the correct lesson.
