DesignPLUS QuickStart Wizard
The QuickStart Wizard provides access to ready-made templates and content blocks you can add to your Canvas course. With the Wizard’s interactive preview and drag-and-drop functionality, you can add, remove, and rearrange elements more easily.
Where Can I Use the Wizard?
The Wizard is available whenever you create new content using the Canvas Rich Content Editor in Canvas, including:
✅ Pages
✅ Assignments
✅ Discussions
✅ Announcements
✅ Syllabi
✅ Classic Quizzes
The DesignPLUS QuickStart Wizard button will appear next to the title of the content you are editing.
The Wizard is only available when you create something new, so it will not be visible in any of your existing content.
How do I use the Wizard?
When editing new content in Canvas, click the DesignPLUS QuickStart Wizard button.
When first opened, the Quick Start Wizard displays a Getting Started guide.
Select the Templates tab and choose a template. Clicking on a category opens the accordion menu to show all templates in that category.
Each template opens in a preview window. Templates are made up of multiple blocks that can be rearranged in the template by using the up and down arrows next to each block. Blocks can also be rearranged by simply dragging and dropping them elsewhere in the template. You can also remove blocks by using the delete button next to each block.
With the blocks tab, you can add additional blocks to a template to customize it, or even build your own templates from scratch, block by block. Feel free to experiment in the preview window until you build something you like.
When you are ready, click the Add to the Editor button to add what is in the preview window to your Canvas course.
In Canvas, you can edit the content just like you would edit any other Canvas content, using the editing toolbar.
You may occasionally see “Editor Only Notes” that appear in a template. These are meant as a helpful guide and share best practices. You do not need to delete these tips, as only you will see them when editing a page. Students will never see these Editor Only Notes or tips.
The publicly available templates in the Quick Start Wizard are relatively simple to edit and should all be editable within Canvas with no special tools. However, you may occasionally come across blocks that may be more advanced and may be best edited using the DesignPLUS sidebar, which is an additional add-on for Canvas that allows users to edit and design more advanced layout options on a page. If interested, here is more information about the DesignPLUS Sidebar.
