Adding Videos to Canvas Quizzes
Including quiz questions alongside videos in Canvas courses transforms passive watching into active learning. Quizzes help students engage with and retain key concepts by prompting recall, providing immediate feedback, and reinforcing understanding. They also give teachers valuable insights into student progress, ensuring that learners grasp material before moving on. Overall, embedding quizzes within videos boosts interactivity, motivation, and long-term knowledge retention.
The easiest way to create a video quiz is to simply embed a video in a Canvas quiz and add questions students will answer after viewing the video. To do this, you use the same quizzing tools you are already used to using in Canvas.
Steps to create a video quiz in Canvas
The steps are always the same:

Add instructions to the quiz
Embed the video in the quiz
Add questions to the quiz
Example using New Quizzes
For our example below, we will be using New Quizzes in canvas.
Create a quiz choosing the option for New Quizzes
Add a title and basic instructions to the quiz
Choose to add a Stimulus questions. Stimulus questions work well for videos because they allow you to display questions side by side with a video or directly underneath the video.
You will first add the video as the stimulus. (A stimulus is a reading passage or video students should read or view in order to answer the accompanying questions).
Embed the video in the Content box
Choose whether you would like to display the quiz questions to the right of the video or below the video. For larger videos, it often works best to display beneath the video.
After adding the video and saving your work, you can attach questions.
Press the Attach Question button.
Choose the type of question you would like to attach to the stimulus video.
The video will then appear in the quiz along with its accompanying questions.
