Set up Multi-Factor Authentication for Google account
Please use the following instructions to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your NCSSM Google account:
- 1 Instructions
- 1.1 Google prompt
- 1.2 Authenticator
- 1.3 Phone Number
Instructions
Go to https://myaccount.google.com/security or
Log into your NCSSM Google account via http://mail.ncssm.edu or directly from http://www.google.com.
Click on the menu button at the top-right and click on Account.
Select Security. If the browser's window is small enough, this menu may be horizontally oriented across the top of the page.
Scroll down, and under "Password & sign-in method", select 2-Step Verification. (You may then be prompted to sign in once again.)
On the next page you will need to select your form of 2-Step Verification under second steps. NCSSM recommends you use Google prompt or Authenticator for your 2-Step Verification as they are more secure than using a phone number. The instructions to set up all three options are detailed below.
But you only need to setup one of the three.
Google prompt
You can setup Google prompt by signing into the Gmail app on a Android or Apple device with your NCSSM Account. You should then see the following on the 2-Step Verification Page (you may need to refresh the page for it to update):
Click Turn on 2-Step Verification and you are done
Authenticator
Select Add authenticator app. This may require you to install Google Authenticator on your phone.
Then select Set up authenticator
Using Google Authenticator, scan the QR code with your phone
Click Next and enter the 6 digit code from the Google Authenticator app and click Verify
Click Turn On in the Turn on 2-Step Verification area and you are done
Phone Number
Click Add a phone number
Enter your phone number
Enter the code that was texted to the number and click Verify
Click Turn on 2-Step Verification and you are done
