Add the Konica Minolta Copiers on Mac

Please use the following directions to connect to the Konica Minolta copiers from a Mac, including those on 1st and 2nd Watts, 1st Bryan, and the B&W copier in the Communications Center.

This includes NCSSM-owned machines, and applies to faculty and staff.

Instructions

  1. Download the following driver from Konica Minolta for this particular copier model (bizhub 458e): Download Link (NCSSM login required)

  2. Double-click the downloaded installer, bizhub 458e.pkg. Complete the installation. 

  3. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu or the Dock.

  4. Select Printers & Scanners.

  5. Click the + button to add a copier.

  6. If there is no Advanced button in the toolbar:

    1. Press the Control key on your keyboard while clicking the "Default" icon (or any other icon on the toolbar), then choose Customize Toolbar... from the contextual menu that appears.

    2. Drag the Advanced (gear) icon to the toolbar.

    3. Click Done.

  7. Click the Advanced icon in the toolbar.

  8. Choose Windows printer via spoolss from the Type pop-up menu.

  9. In the URL field, type the copier's address in the following format: smb://durpapercut.ncssm.edu/your_printer_name

    1. These are the names of the new (2020) Konica Minolta bizhub 458e copiers:

      1. Copier1stBryan

      2. Copier1stWatts

      3. Copier2ndWatts

      4. CopierCommunicationsCenterB+W

  10. In the Name field, type the name you would like to use for this copier in macOS.

  11. Choose the appropriate copier driver from the "Use:" pop-up menu. This should be called KONICA MINOLTA 458e PS.

  12. Click Add.

  13. Once you’re ready to print for the first time, you may be asked for credentials to do so.

    1. Your username should include: ncssm\<username>

    2. Your password should be your NCSSM password.

  14. When you are printing for the first time, you will also need to put in your 4-digit print code before you can print. To do this:

    1. In the center of the Print dialog box, select Output Method from the drop-down menu.. Note: If you are using Google Chrome to Print, you will need to click Print using system dialog... before you can get to the standard macOS print dialog.

    2. Click on Account Track.

    3. Leave the Department Name field blank, put your 4-digit print code in the Password field, and check both checkboxes to save this information.

    4. From the Presets menu, select Save Current Settings as Preset.

    5. Name the preset, select Only this printer, and click OK.
