Zoom: Cloud Recording to Panopto
This guide explains how to use cloud recording for Zoom meetings. When using cloud recording, your recorded videos are now stored on the Panopto video hosting service. These instructions explain how to access and share these videos with your students and others.
Instructions for Recording Class Meetings
Create a course folder in Panopto
Go to your course in Canvas.
Select the “Panopto” link in your course navigation menu.
Wait a moment until Panopto loads (see the image below for an example). This will create a folder for storing your cloud recordings for this course. You must do this first before using cloud recording for any course.
Schedule the course Zoom meetings in Canvas
Use the Zoom link in your Canvas course navigation menu to schedule your meeting(s).
For additional help: Scheduling Zoom Meetings in CanvasIf you teach multiple sections of the same course, be certain you name your meetings with the section name (D Block, B Block, etc.) so students can find the correct recordings. By default, all zoom meeting recordings will be added to the same course folder in Panopto. If you prefer to store each section’s recordings in a separate sub-folder, follow these instructions for Recording Zoom Meetings for a Class with Multiple sections.
You must use the Zoom link in your Canvas course to schedule your Zoom meeting. If you scheduled your course Zoom meeting at the Zoom website or using Google Calendar, we recommend deleting the meeting and scheduling a new recurring meeting using the Zoom link in your Canvas course.
Do not reuse meeting links from one course in another course. Cloud recording only works when you schedule a unique meeting for each course you are teaching.
Record Your Meeting(s)
During your Zoom Meeting, use the “Record” button and choose “Record to the Cloud.”
When setting up your meeting, we do not recommend using the option to automatically record meetings, as this often results in unintended recordings anytime someone clicks the meeting link. Instead, we recommend creating a reminder note and placing it near your computer to help you remember to press the record button.
Locate your Zoom Meeting Recordings
You and your students can find cloud recordings by going to the "Panopto" link in the Canvas course.
It can take several hours for cloud recordings to show up.
Using Cloud Recording for Other Meetings
You can also use Zoom Cloud Recordings for other meetings. If you schedule a meeting using the Zoom website or the Google Calendar plugin, or the meeting is not associated with any Canvas course, your cloud recording will be stored for you on the Panopto website.
Access Panopto by visiting coursevideos.ncssm.edu
Look in the “Meeting Recordings” folder inside your “My Folder” folder.
Share Panopto Videos
Choose the "share" option. You can then decide who the file should be shared with.
2. If you need to share the video widely with many people at NCSSM, we recommend setting the share permission so that "Anyone at your organization with the link" can view. You can then copy the URL and share it with anyone at NCSSM.
Sharing to external users
Panopto makes it easy to share videos with people without NCSSM accounts.
Instructions for sharing videos to external users via email invitation (best method if sharing with only a few external people).
If you have a video that needs to be shared with many parents or the general public, and it does not feature sensitive information, another option is to edit the sharing permissions on the video, setting it to Public (unlisted) Anyone who has the link. You can then share the URL to the video with others external to NCSSM.
