Reset Network Adapter - Windows

If you are connected to the NCSSM network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet on your Windows-based PC and are not able to establish an Internet connection, please try the following instructions:

 

Reset Network Adapter

  1. Click on the search bar or search button (magnifying glass) in Windows and search for Control Panel

  2. When the Control Panel program appears, click on it to open

  3. Find and click on the Network & Sharing Center or search for it using the search bar in the upper-right corner of the window

  4. On the left-hand panel, open Change Adapter Settings and find the icon labelled Wi-Fi

  5. Select this icon and in the top tool-bar click on Disable this Network Device

  6. Once disabled, the icon should be grayed out

  7. Wait around 5 seconds, and then click on Enable this Network Device

  8. Re-connect to the Eduroam network

Reset Winsock Catalog

  1. Click on the search bar or search button (magnifying glass) in Windows and search for cmd.

  2. When the Command Prompt program appears, right-click on the program and click Run as administrator.

  3. The Command Prompt should open and present you with a white, blinking cursor on a black background. Type netsh winsock reset and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

  4. Once completed, you should see a message that says "Winsock reset completed successfully". Reboot your PC when prompted.

Reset TCP/IP Settings

  1. Click on the search bar or search button (magnifying glass) in Windows and search for cmd.

  2. When the Command Prompt program appears, right-click on the program and click Run as administrator.

  3. The Command Prompt should open and present you with a white, blinking cursor on a black background. Type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

  4. Reboot your PC when prompted.

Renew IP Addresses

  1. Click on the search bar or search button (magnifying glass) in Windows and search for cmd.

  2. When the Command Prompt program appears, right-click on the program and click Run as administrator.

  3. The Command Prompt should open and present you with a white, blinking cursor on a black background. Type ipconfig /release and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

  4. The Command Prompt should spit out a list of various networking IDs and information, showing that the IP addresses have been purged.

  5. Now type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter. This process will take some time to complete.

  6. If nothing happens within a few minutes, hit Ctrl + C on your keyboard to cancel the command and return the text prompt.

  7. Then type ipconfig /release again and hit Enter, it should tell you that there are no IP addresses to release.

  8. Now retype ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.

  9. Once completed, you should see a list of the same network IDs as before with new information, and internet access should be available.
